Jazz Vocalist Veronic Swift
November 19 / 7:30pm

For Immediate Release:
The Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver proudly presents Veronica Swift Friday, November 19 at 7:30pm at the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall. Tickets start at $19 (plus applicable service fees) and are on sale at newmancenterpresents.com or by phone at 303.871.7720.
As Swift remarked recently, “This show at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts is not only a comeback after a yearlong hiatus of no gigs, but it is a rebirth. The songs I’ve picked for this show encompass some of This Bitter Earth’s message, but also we have included new songs that mix classical with rock and roll and funk as well as jazz. I now know that my purpose as an artist is to break down these barriers and fully immerse the audience in what to me is just simply music.”
Veronica Swift’s performance will kick off the 2021-22 Newman Center Presents series that includes such performers as Kronos Quartet, Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Nashville Ballet with Rhiannon Giddens.
With a repertoire running the gamut from swing to bebop to the Great American Songbook, Veronica Swift is a young but fully-fledged star on the international jazz scene. Her latest recording This Bitter Earth was released in March of 2021, quickly reaching #1 on the JazzWeek album chart. Boasting a clear and lilting tone and radiant stage presence, she is also a master of rigorous vocal techniques like vocalese and scat. In the Wall Street Journal’s words: “[Swift] might be the best scat singer since Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Tormé.” Having first gained widespread attention in high-profile collaborations with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Chris Botti, she has developed a devoted following among audiences.

In consultation with DU’s health care partner, National Jewish Health, and consistent with guidance from federal, state and local public health agencies, DU has implemented a variety of mitigation measures across campus, including requiring face coverings, as well as mandatory testing and vaccination requirements for students and employees. As of September 17, all patrons ages 12 and older attending a Newman Center performance must present:
(1) Proof of full vaccination by showing a physical copy or photo of a vaccine card or by using the MyColorado app; or
(2) For those who are not fully vaccinated, proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance.
Please note that (a) full vaccination means 14 days after receiving the final dose of an FDA authorized or WHO listed vaccine; and (b) results from antigen tests and home testing kits will not be accepted.
In addition, all visitors must wear a face covering at all times while inside the Newman Center, including during the performance, except when an individual is actively eating or drinking.
