
Founded in 1991 by Amelia Rudolph and currently led be artistic director Melecio Estrella, BANDALOOP is an Oakland, California-based vertical dance performance group that celebrates the human spirit, nature, and communities through dance that uses climbing technology to expand and challenge what is possible. The movement and climbing-trained dancers will perform LOOM:FIELD, on Thursday, September 29 at 4:30 p.m. walls of the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Sie Complex (2201 S Gaylord St.) The event is free and open to the community.
LOOM:FIELD unites vertical dance, spoken word, fabric manipulation and original music by Ben Juodvalkis, featuring guest vocalist Destani Wolf, turning the building’s facade into a giant loom where stories and dances interlace. For more information about BANDALOOP, please visist www.bandaloop.org.
BANDALOOP’s performance will be the centerpiece of a larger festival in celebration of the Newman Center’s 20th anniversary. The festival will feature an afternoon filled with food trucks, a bar with concessions and an interactive loom demonstration from Fancy Tiger Crafts. Local artists Playground Ensemble, Presenting Denver and students from DU’s Lamont School of Music will provide additional entertainment.
