Elizabeth Ericksen Byron Theatre

Denver’s own donnie l. betts and the Newman Center present Black., a live broadcast as part of the Destination Freedom series from Betts’ award-winning Black Radio Days, which celebrates 20 years of exploring the impact radio has had on African-American history, past and present.

This broadcast presents Black., a play about a short conversation between a black woman and a white woman momentarily linked by the death of a 12-year-old child. It’s a murder that confounds the white woman; while the black woman finds it unnervingly predictable. Black.shares the story from the victim’s and shooter’s perspectives.

Join us after the performance for a robust community discussion with Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz, renowned activists from Black Lives Matter 5280, and others. Musical guests Monique Brooks Roberts and friends will bring a mix of jazz, soul, hip-hop, and R&B.

Note that the venue for this performance has moved from Hamilton Recital Hall to Byron Theatre at the Newman Center.
