"Contemporary dance on ice” from Montreal, Le Patin Libre transforms athleticism into a means of artistic expression. Le Patin Libre’s work explores the amazing choreographic and theatrical potential of glide, creating a unique experience that’s fun for the whole family. Founded in 2005 by competitive skaters, Le Patin Libre proposes a contemporary reinvention of the ice show. Their first two opuses for 5 skating-artistes (Vertical Influences in 2014 and Threshold in 2018) were critically acclaimed, delighting audiences across North America. Speed, virtuosity and fluid choreography characterize their sophisticated yet accessible style that charms as much as it questions and inspires. The Show: Murmuration This new show is a human transposition of the murmurations of flocks of birds. Uniquely made possible by the fluidity and speed of glide, the show was created using complex algorithms enriched with choreographic intentions. Just like the starlings’ hallucinating aerial ballets, Murmuration exceeds what an individual brain can imagine or comprehend. Taking this choreographic object through an epic but abstract journey, the skaters explore the dynamic interactions of an harmonious, exhilarating but sometimes dangerous togetherness.
